Ciao for now!
I hate Milano. Sorry to those lovers of the most overrated city in Europe, but it is the truth. I should not pass judgement as I have never been shown the ropes by a true Milanese and maybe that would make all the difference. I have been numerous times over the past few years, always trying to keep an open-mind and an open-heart for the elusive magical moment when Milano might morph into a hidden gem...it has never happened yet. This past trip, in order to make the city more charming, I stayed at the Château Monfort (check it out here: http://www.hotelchateaumonfort.com/), a boutique hotel minutes away from the action of Piazza San Babila and the Duomo. It has an adorable whimsical fairy tale theme and the decor is based on pastels of lilac and sea green. I most loved the view of the courtyard from our room at night. Shopping is my main activity in Milano, the main shopping districts are found around the Duomo and you can spend a good many days window shopping alone. I never buy alot when I am there, I find the prices quite high and the salespeople intimidating. You know what my second favorite activity is in the city though? Spritz time. Aperitivo is my favorite time of day, the Italian happy hour with much better drinks and "free" finger food (I know you pay for it in the end with your 12 Euro cocktail, but I still like to tell myself it's free!)...So far, my favorite spot is on the terrace of La Rinascente on a sunny day. They serve their Aperol Spritz with tons of ice which is essentially a way for them to save on the alcohol, but I absolutely love how refreshing it is!
Ciao for now!
